Heading a high-ranking delegation, Vaezi arrived in Istanbul on Friday morning to meet with Turkish officials and discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.
Vaezi, who is also Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s special envoy for Tehran-Ankara relations, was received by Iranian Ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian Fard and several local officials upon his arrival.
During the trip, a number of officials from the Iranian ministries of oil, energy, industry, mines, and trade are accompanying the president’s special envoy.
Back in April, Vaezi made a trip to Ankara for a session of Iran-Turkey Economic Cooperation Joint Commission.
Iran and Turkey have ramped up efforts in recent months to boost bilateral trade after the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
The deal took effect on January 16, terminating all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran.
